San Luis People’s Ditch Upgrade and Rehabilitation Project – Phase I

Category: Irrigation Infrastructure
Organization: San Luis Peoples’ Ditch Company
Date Approved: May 2010
Basin Funds: $40,000
State Funds: $0

This project replaced the Rito Seco crossing diversion structure on the San Luis Peoples’ Ditch, the oldest ditch in Colorado. Built in 1945, this structure diverts excess water from the ditch into the Culebra River, but was suffering from deteriorating concrete and metal fixtures. Adjacent to a residential area, replacing the structure will prevent future flooding and water management issues.
